This set of photos is from one of the many restoration cases I have worked on as part of The Cranford 86 Project.

This case demonstrates the meticulous restoration of a photograph featuring SP4 Raymond J. Ashnault during his service in Vietnam. The original image captures a moment of rest in front of sandbag fortifications.

Lighting & Dynamic Range:
Adjustments were made to address severe overexposure and low contrast in the original. By redistributing the black and white points, the "haze" covering the image was eliminated, significantly enhancing visual depth.

Color Correction:
The original color casts were restored to authentic olive drab (OG-107 uniforms) and natural skin tones, while the color gradients of the sky and vegetation were corrected.

Texture Reconstruction:
Damaged film grain was repaired, and the textures of the ground gravel, fortification materials, and distant mechanical components were enhanced, increasing the image's refinement and historical authenticity.

Facial Feature Reconstruction:
In this restoration, I made precise adjustments to the eye shape, nose shape, and facial structure based on his features from other reference photos. This enhances the clarity of the image while accurately restoring his true likeness.

The Cranford 86 Project is a non-profit memorial initiative based in Cranford, New Jersey. Its core mission is to provide a true identity to the 86 local heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in WWI, WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Through research and image restoration, the project recovers the life stories and photographs of these heroes, ensuring their sacrifices are never forgotten.
